Our Take On The Small and Midsize Luxury SUV Sales Numbers
Small and Midsize Luxury SUV sales were down in Canada for the month of January when compared with this time last year. Each of the Subcompact, Compact, and Midsize Luxury SUV segments were down slightly.
The Subcompact Luxury SUV segment was led by the new Lexus UX. The UX was followed by the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. Both the X1 and the GLA-Class saw sales drop by well over 50 percent when compared to January of last year.
The Compact Luxury SUV segment’s sales leader was Audi Q5, although its sales were down by over 27 percent. The Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class came in second and saw a slight increase in sales. The BMW X3 came in third but saw a significant decrease of about 16 percent.
Overall, the segment fared better than the Subcompact segment, but the models that experienced sales decreases were pretty dramatic. All sales decreases were double digits.
The Midsize Luxury SUV segment was led by the BMW X5 thanks to a more than 56 percent increase in sales. The next three models saw sales declines. Rounding out the top five was the Infiniti QX60. Overall, there were more models that saw sales decreases than increases.
