Our Take On The Small and Midsize Luxury SUV Sales Numbers
Small and Midsize Luxury SUV sales in Canada were a mixed bag of results. Subcompact SUV sales were up considerably while Compact and Midsize Luxury SUV sales were down slightly for February.
The Subcompact Luxury SUV segment saw around 440 more sales than it did this time last year. Leading the way was the BMW X1 with a more than 21 percent sales increase over this time last year. New models also performed well.
The Compact Luxury SUV segment saw a drop in sales of about 200 units when compared to this month last year. The Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class led the segment in terms of volume and saw a more than 19 percent rise in sales.
Other models, like the Acura RDX, Lexus NX, and Infiniti QX50 also performed well. Overall, more models saw decreases than increases in sales.
Sales for the Midsize Luxury SUV segment were essentially flat. A the month saw only a few fewer models than this month’s last year numbers. More models saw sales decreases than increases, but several models saw significant sales increases, including the Infiniti QX60, Jaguar F-Pace, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, Porsche Cayenne, and Land Rover Range Rover Velar.
YTD numbers in all segments were similar to the monthly figures, except for the Subcompact Luxury SUV segment which is down considerably. This may change as the year moves forward.
