Our Take On The Small and Midsize Luxury Cars Sales Numbers
Fortunes were mixed at best across the Canadian small and midsize luxury car segment in May 2018.
For Mercedes-Benz, 104% year-on-year growth for the CLA-Class is good news, but a 23% drop in sales of its C-Class is not so good.
Similarly, the Audi A3 and A4’s direction is at odds, with the smaller A3 seeing growth of almost 12% for the month.
Sales of the Acura TLX are up by a third for May, likely helped by heavy incentives from Canadian dealers. The ILX on the other hand is faring less well; May saw sales fall 16.8% year-on-year and year-to-date the front-wheel-drive compact sports car is behind 2017’s performance by 18%.
Overall, midsize luxury sedans had a better month in May, though the 1.1% year-on-year growth across the segment through the month was fueled by steep growth for the few, while the many saw considerable declines in sales.
