Our Take On The Small and Midsize Luxury Cars Sales Numbers
Many small luxury cars struggled to make headway in May, with the majority of the vehicles in the table below falling behind their totals for the same month in 2017.
Sales of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3-Series, 4-Series and Acura TLX all fell at similar rates year-on-year, while Audi’s entries in this market bucked the trend; the A4 and A4 both saw sales climb by over 15% year-on-year.
Mercedes-Benz even smaller luxury saloon, the CLA-Class fared better than its Audi rival; its sales increased 72.3% year-on-year while the smaller Audi saw sales fall by almost 20% year-on-year.
Other green flashes in the small luxury cars year-on-year column come from niche players; the Alfa Romeo Giulia increased its sales by a third for the month, while the Inifiniti Q60’s monthly 2018 figures are still being played off against a flat line zero sales this time last year.
It was a better story for Mercedes-Benz in the midsize luxury car chart; the E-Class saw sales increase by 15.4% – putting it within 0.1% of going green year-to-date.
It wasn’t the top-seller in this chunk of the market however – for May, that honour goes to the Lexus ES, despite sales falling in the region of 20% for the Japanese luxo-barge.
