The Audi A4’s surge continued through August, with the compact luxury sedan taking second place in its category for the month on the back of a 37.2% year-on-year increase in its sales.
Audi was the only German brand to see all its compact luxury nameplates sales grow last month, with the A3 and A5 also on the up while the BMW 2-, 3- and 4-Series and Mercedes-Benz B-, C- and CLA-Class model lines seeing sales fall steeply.
Tesla’s ramping up of Model 3 production and deliveries saw it outsell total sales volume of all other midsize luxury car nameplates to have reported put together. That’s as traditional stalwarts of this segment – the Lexus ES, BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E- and CLS-Classes saw sales tumble year-on-year.
