At the end of quarter 3 2018, Canadian passenger car sales are behind 2017’s figures year-to-date by 6.4%. Difficulties for many of the market’s top sellers describe a bleak picture, with marques like the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra and Honda Accord down year-to-date by almost 10%, and others – including the VW Jetta, Ford Fusion and Kia Forte seeing drops of over 20% year-to-date.
Some electric and hybrid vehicles provided a boost, with the Nissan Leaf selling its 10,000 unit in Canada as Nissan celebrated the vehicle’s best September ever following from August’s all-time sales record.
Chevrolet Bolt EV deliveries also surged, with sales up 29.1% as GM shifted allocation from the US. The Tesla Model 3 is also on a charge continued from August with around 2000 being reported to have been delivered in Canada last month.
