Our Take On The SUV Sales Numbers

The Honda CR-V outpaced growth in the wider SUV market in Canada by 17.8% to 11.8%, as it closes in once more on the dominant RAV4. 1,639 sales separate the pair in the YTD stakes, with the Honda having overtaken the RAV4’s year-to-date count from last year in October.

Notably, October also saw the CR-V’s sales outstrip those of the rival RAV4 for the first time since March.

The Hyundai Tucson remains the rising star in this category, as its 70% year-on-year growth continues to keep it in fifth.

October saw the Jeep Wrangler bounce back in October after a couple of months of falling sales. Sales were up 44.3% in Canada in October. Despite this, it still has a 13.18% mountain to climb if it is to break even by the end of the year.

The only other Jeep to post growth in October was the Compass, though as it now replaces the outgoing Compass and Patriot, in real terms sales have dropped 32.8%.
