Our Take On The Minivan Sales Numbers
The top-heavy US minivan market grew by 0.5% year-on-year in March, with the podium-placed nameplates’ growth outweighing steep losses at the lower-volume end of things.
Last month’s sales marked an uptick on the same month a year before, though sales of minivans in the USA are still well below 2016 levels.
The Chrysler Pacifica, the second-best selling minivan overall, emerged from 2018’s first quarter with sales up by 30% compared with the first three months of 2017.
Between it, the Grand Caravan, and the solitary Town & Country sold in 2018’s third month, FCA brands accounted for 60.9% of the minivan market in March.
An upsurge in Honda Odyssey sales for the month filled the hole left by the Toyota Sienna’s year-on-year decline very neatly. Sales of the Kia Sedona were also sliced, with just over half as many being sold this March as last.
