Our Take On The Minivan Sales Numbers

While recent solid performances from some of the nameplates below have kept the US minivan market fairly close to last year’s selling pace (after June’s sales the segment is 2.56% off the pace) it cannot be said that June 2018 was a good month for minivan sales.

Only two of the minivans listed – the Dodge Grand Caravan and Kia Sedona – managed year-on-year growth despite one extra selling day in the sixth month than in 2017.

Of those two, only the Kia actually managed to improve on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis.

FCA may have reported its best June sales in 14 years last month, but the powerhouse of that growth did not come from its minivans. Nor, to be frank, did it come out of the Chrysler brand – the Pacifica’s sales slump, which represented over a quarter its total for this month last year, accounted for most of the drop in the Chrysler stable, while the automaker’s SUVs, trucks and muscle cars push ahead.
