Our Take On The Minivan Sales Numbers

Minivan sales didn’t fare too well in February of 2019 with sales dropping for every model in the segment.

The Dodge Grand Caravan sold the most units, but it also saw a more than 23 percent decrease in sales. The Chrysler Pacifica also saw a significant decrease. Its sales dropped by more than 31 percent. The Toyota Sienna saw a similar decrease in sales of 29 percent.

Only the Kia Sedona and the Honda Odyssey saw sales decreases in the single digits.

From a YTD perspective, only the Kia Sedona came out on top. All other models saw similar sales decreases to their month of February results.

This information shows that fewer people are buying minivans. They’re likely opting for three-row SUVs instead. This will likely continue as 2019 continues on.

Important note: Both Ford and GM have switched to quarterly reporting, making it more difficult to accurately gauge crossover sales. We won’t have results to report for Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Ford or Lincoln until April 2019.
