Our Take On The Minivan Sales Numbers
Year-on-year falling registrations see all but two of the minivans in our countdown avoid negative growth and a red box for September. The market as a whole fell behind by 6,500 sales compared with last September.
Last month we were celebrating the Dodge Grand Caravan’s immense 17k+ registrations for the month of August in the US. September was an entirely different story. Registrations are down 62% year-on-year as FCA’s Windsor Assembly Plant suspends production in order to retool to bring the Grand Caravan up to spec with new side airbag regulations that came in on September 1st.
YTD figures for the Dodge Minivan remain ahead for now, but the production pause will likely see it fall behind 2016’s registrations in next month’s figures.
The replacement for the Kia Sedona, currently in testing and due in 2018, can’t come soon enough. Sales of the current iteration of the Sedona are down almost 50% YTD.
