Our Take On The Midsize SUV Sales Numbers
The Hyundai Santa Fe Sport tops the midsize SUV sales chart for the month of August, with a 34% surge in its sales putting it ahead of the also surging Ford Explorer and Jeep Wrangler.
After a very strong first quarter and still strong second quarter, Wrangler started the third quarter with a dip in July, but August saw it back posting double-digit growth – up 41.1% year-on-year.
Grand Cherokee sales are less bountiful, with that Jeep stalwart having seen sales drop 43.8% last month and having sold 25.1% fewer units year-to-date, but a raft of 2019 updates is on its way in the autumn which may help things.
In August, overall sales of midsize SUVs were up 1.45% year-on-year, though as you can see by the mixture of green and red in the chart below, it’s a bit of a split picture in terms of growth.
