Our Take On The Midsize SUVs Sales Numbers

After another month of huge growth, the Jeep Wrangler had its best month of sales ever to once again sit top of the midsize SUV sales chart. That growth propelled it to be the top-seller year-to-date in the midsize SUV segment, with a gap of 1600 sales to the next-placed Ford Explorer.

April was not such a strong month for the Wrangler’s less rugged stable mate the Grand Cherokee, sales of which dropped 11.8% year-on-year.

In fact the Wrangler, Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot and Mazda CX-9 were in the minority as vehicles to sell more this April than last, with rising fuel prices and two fewer selling days in the month perhaps to blame for the frequency of red in the this year vs last year column.

The recently-introduced Volkswagen Atlas had another strong month in the US market, with the VW brand attributing its growth this month to a more family-friendly lineup focused on its SUVs.
