Our Take On The Midsize Car Sales Numbers
Midsize Car sales saw a slight decline in 2018 when compared to 2017 of roughly 700 units. The month of December saw a more significant decline of over 600 units when compared with last year’s December numbers.
The sales leader in terms of sales volume for the month of December and the entire year of 2018 was the Toyota Camry. Sales were down for December when compared with this time last year but the model saw a small uptick in sales for the year.
The Honda Accord was close behind in terms of sales volume for the year and it saw a slightly better upturn in sales for the year. Sales for the model were up an impressive 31.2 percent in December. In third place for sales volume was the Toyota Prius Family. It has a good year and month with significant sales increases for the month of December and the entire year.
Actually, all hybrid and electric models saw sales increases for the year and for the month of December, except for the Chevrolet Volt. Many other conventional cars saw sales declines. Kia’s sporty Stinger saw significant increases, too, and will be an interesting model to watch in 2019.
In Midsize Cars, it seems the segment stalwarts will continue on, sporty cars will sell, and hybrid and electric car sales will continue to increase as 2019 moves on.
