Our Take On The Vehicle sales Numbers
Ram Pickup sales grew year-on-year for the first time in almost a year, contributing to FCA’s 11% year-on-year increase for May.
Amidst that, Fiat Chrysler reported a 10% increase in retail sales – the manufacturer’s best retail performance since July 2005 – as sales of the Dodge Grand Caravan and Journey also gave the automaker’s figures shot in the arm.
Sales of Jeep’s wonder-duo of Compass and Wrangler were backed up by a 62.5% increase in sales of the Cherokee, with the SUV-focused brand significantly increasing its total for the month on last year’s performance.
Neither were the best-selling SUV for the month, though Wrangler took fifth for that. The honour goes to the Nissan Rogue, with an 18.1% year-on-year increase for the month.
Honda Civic sales increased 7.4%, though it was the Japanese brand’s second-best selling vehicle to the CR-V SUV, which edged it out by over 1500 sales.
*GM has now switched to quarterly reporting so figures for Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC are not up to date. We have opted against using estimated sales figures for these brands as the estimates across publications have been inconsistent.
Going forward, GoodCarBadCar will be releasing quarterly sales reports that include all figures on a quarterly basis.
