The GCBC Analysis
Minivan sales in America in the month of March don’t look so hot. Of the models for sale, only one saw a sales increase and the segment was down by about 5,500 units. The numbers look similar for YTD. However, the model that saw a sales increase is different than the monthly winner.
For the month of March, the Dodge Grand Caravan led the segment in terms of overall sales. However, it and all models but the Toyota Sienna saw sales decreases. The Sienna saw a notable uptick in sales for March of over 10 percent when compared to this time last year.
When it comes to YTD sales numbers the segment is down over 23,600 units. The only model that has seen an increase in sales thus far in 2019 is the Kia Sedona.
The data would suggest more people are turning to three-row SUVS and crossovers.

Minivan Sales by Quarter
Important note: Both Ford and GM have switched to quarterly reporting, making it more difficult to accurately gauge crossover sales. We won’t have results to report for Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Ford or Lincoln until the end of each quarter.
