Our Take On The Passenger Car Numbers

Continuing the decline from a year ago, all passenger car sales in America fell by 10.6% in the first quarter of 2018 compared with 2017 – slightly less steep, but a considerable decline nonetheless.

For the month of March, sales overall of passenger cars fell by 8.7%, again an ease on the decline seen this time last year.

That’s not to say things are rosy in this segment – while the Toyota Camry has had a strong Q1 this year, it narrowly missed out on matching last March’s performance, though still remains top of the sales chart for the month in this segment.

47 of the 144 nameplates on the chart below managed to post sales growth through the first three months of the year.

For Q1 2018, passenger car share of the US auto market stands at just 32%.
