Our Take On The Large SUV Sales Numbers

The increase in sales over 2017’s pace across the large SUV segment in Canada remained virtually steady over the course of Q3; with September’s results, 18.4% more large SUVs have been sold in Canada than at this point in 2017.

Sharp increases for the three General Motors nameplates in our chart below have driven much of that increase – the Chevrolet Tahoe’s sales are up by a third on last year with three months to go, while the Yukon and Yukon XL have both experienced their own upticks.

Lower-volume sales of the larger Suburban have seen even more impressive growth; its deliveries in Canada are up 75.8% year-to-date. Overall, GM SUVs account for 69.7% of all large SUVs sold this year so far, an increase in market share from YTD Q3 2017’s proportion of 63.1%.
