Our Take On The Large SUV Sales Numbers

This time last year, Ford’s full-size SUV the Expedition was experiencing a sharp uptick in sales in Canada. October 2017 brings it less fortuitous tidings, as only 61 Expeditions were acquired by Canadian consumers this month – less than a tenth that were in the equivalent month of 2016.

The GMC Yukon and Yukon XL continue their dominance here, with both posting substantial growth on last October’s sales. Between them, the pair have sold more this month than combined sales of the Nissan Armada and Toyota Land Cruiser year-to-date.

In fact, October was the best month ever for the Yukon in the Canadian market, topping last November’s record of 617 sales.

GM’s other horses in the Large SUV race – the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe – both also fared impressively in October, bringing General Motors’ market share of large SUV sales for the month to a frankly staggering 90.3%.

For a segment that this time last year was posting 62.6% growth year-on-year, it says a lot about Canadian appetites for these vehicles that it continues to grow, albeit by *just* 30% this year.
