Our Take On The Large SUV Sales Numbers

A huge surge in sales of the Chevrolet Suburban in February drove the large SUV segment to 33% year-on-year growth last month.

Suburban sales more than trebled in February making the start to 2018 easily the big Chevy’s best on record in Canada.

Between it and its close relations, the Tahoe and the GMC Yukon and XL, General Motors has taken 64.6% of all large SUV sales in Canada so far this year, with the automaker reporting a 2.7% year-on-year increase in retail sales as part of that mix that made up its best February total sales ever in Canada.

Ford’s renewed Expedition managed some growth over February 2017’s sales last month, but year-to-date it remains behind on last year’s pre-changeover clear-out by the Blue Oval.

Meanwhile Nissan and Toyota’s chunk of large SUV sales shrunk further, with the Land Cruiser now the only nameplate not to come out of Detroit still in growth for 2018 to date.
