Our Take On The Large Cars Sales Numbers
May 2018 is the second month where GM did not report its sales figures, having made the announcement that it was switching to quarterly reporting at the end of March.
As such we’ll have a fuller picture of where the US volume large car market sits at the end of next month, but for those that have reported their figures for May the news is (predictably) not fantastic.
Every single model in the chart below reported falling sales compared to a year ago, with even April’s golden children the Toyota Avalon and Kia Cadenza falling behind in the month of May.
With the Avalon joining others in the below chart on a list of cars that have sat on US dealer lots for an average of 90 days or longer earlier in the month, discounts are rife in this segment, and yet still buyers don’t appear to be biting.
While we at GoodCarBadCar.net are not reporting estimates for GM sales, reporting from Bloomberg suggests that America’s biggest automaker is experiencing strong sales despite not shouting about them – for now.
While the Bloomberg report suggests it is mainly incentive-heavy pickups that are providing the lift, perhaps when GM figures return to our charts next month they will bring some good news for the large car sector?
