Our Take On The Vehicle sales Numbers

Casting an eye across the Canadian vehicle rankings for July 2018 and it’s easy to spot where the gaps are.

Straight off the bat, the Ram Pickup – third-best selling vehicle for the month – saw sales dip 23.1% year-on-year for July, the highest-placed FCA vehicle in the chart.

All of FCA’s Jeep branded nameplates fell, too, with the Renegade worst hit after an 88% year-on-year-drop – though in terms of volume, the biggest rift is in sales of the Grand Cherokee, which sold more than a thousand fewer units this July than last.

While the general trend continued to be of consumers moving away from passenger cars in favour of SUVs, two out of the three top-selling SUVs saw sales drop last month while their passenger car counterparts saw sales increase.

Toyota RAV4 sales fell 3.9% year-on-year, while sales of the Camry mid-size sedan are up by 13.4% for July. Nissan Sentra sales were up43% year-on-year last month, while Rogue sales fell 2.9%.

Reaping the benefits of strong sales for its highest-volume sellers in both spheres was Honda, for whom the CR-V was up just under 20% in July as its Civic passenger car was also up 8.3%.
