Our Take On The Passenger Car Numbers

Car sales in Canada showed a mixed bag of results. Some models saw significant sales increases whereas others saw surprising sales decreases over this time last year.

The top five sales leaders for the month of February were the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Elantra, and the Mazda3. Of those top five, only the Honda, saw a sales percentage increase over February of last year. The other models saw varying degrees of percentage decreases.

Of all cars on sale, most of the models that saw sales increases saw percentage jumps in the double digits. The same could be said of models that saw sales percentage decreases.

Some cars seem to be selling well while others simply don’t. Most of the YTD numbers were close to the February numbers. It will be interesting to see if this approximate congruency continues as the year progresses.
