Our Take On The Commercial Van Sales Numbers

February sees a continuation of January’s strong fortunes in the commercial van sector, with sales up over 25% year-to-date.

Small / midsize and full size vans both increased in sales year-on-year in February to maintain the momentum from 2018’s first month, with the former seeing sales jump by more than a third and the latter posting still-impressive gains above 15% year-on-year.

The Ford Transit continues as the clear segment leader, with more than 2000 Transits being sold in Canada to date this year – the fastest the nameplate has reached the 2000 units marker in Canada on record.

The Transit is followed by the E-Series and Chevrolet Express, which each sit on roughly level pegging year-to-date heading into March.

The Transit Connect leads in the small-midsize segment, with a sharp increase in sales to last year. The Mercedes-Benz Metris’ sales growth comes close to matching the Transit Connect’s in February, but in volume terms it remains almost 200 units behind the van with the blue oval on the front.
