Our Take On The Commercial Van Sales Numbers
The commercial van segment starts the year 4.2% up on last January, with demand for full size vans leading the charge.
Demand for full size vans rose 5.5% despite the Ford Transit’s sales dfalling behind last January’s figures; the blue oval’s other full-size van, the E-Series rose to the occasion however, with sales of it growing 55% year-on-year.
Ford products make up just under half of all commercial van sales through January. GM vans take another quarter of all sales for last month, with FCA, Nissan and Mercedes-Benz dividing up the remaining 25% or so.
The Chevrolet Express also stands out with a strong January, posting 44% year-on-year growth.
In the small / midsize vans sub-segment, the Ford Transit Connect continues to prevail, though sales dipped 8.8% on last year. Its nearest rival is the Nissan NV200, which sold 1,324 units in January meaning it remains at a comfortable distance for the Ford despite posting 4.7% year-on-year growth.
