The Chevrolet Orlando may want for sliding doors but, relatively speaking, doesn’t want for popularity.
Not only did the Orlando easily out-sell the Mazda 5 and Kia Rondo in March 2012, it also out-sold the Chrysler Town & Country and every other van save for the two leading Japanese vans and the permanently top-ranked Dodge Grand Caravan.
Speaking of the Grand Caravan, a car reviewed by GoodCarBadCar last fall, sales of Dodge’s minivan slid 13% in March and fell 16% in the first quarter of 2012. Nevertheless, 56% of the minivans sold in Canada during the first three months of 2012 were Dodge Grand Caravans.
The Grand Caravan’s decline certainly wasn’t the worst year-over-year drop in the minivan category last month: the Mazda 5 dropped 15% from March 2011, and sales of Kia’s Rondo and Sedona plunged 32% and 55%, respectively. The Orlando, meanwhile, has been on sale for seven months and, through the first quarter of 2012, is Canada’s 63rd-best-selling vehicle.

March 2012 Pickup Truck Sales Chart |
After the jump you’ll see two tables displaying March 2012 and Q1 sales data, both for minivans and pickup trucks. Monthly and yearly sales figures for all these models and every other vehicle currently on sale can always be found by utilizing the dropdown menu at the top right of this page. Canada’s truck market was previously discussed earlier this month.
There were 27,572 pickups sold in March 2012. Only 3647 of those sales didn’t occur as a result of the Chevrolet Silverado, Dodge Ram, Ford F-Series, or GMC Sierra. In other words, along with help from the soon-to-be-defunct Chevrolet Avalanche and Cadillac Escalade EXT, as well as the full-size imports, small trucks accounted for just 13% of all pickup truck sales in Canada last month.
