Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Canada’s top-selling automobile manufacturer, backed up a record-setting Dodge Grand Caravan sales performance in April 2016 with yet more massive output in May. Year-over-year, Grand Caravan sales jumped 89% to 6169 units.
With another 352 sales from the outgoing Chrysler Town & Country and incoming Chrysler Pacifica, 70% of the segment was owned by the Windsor, Ontario-built vans in May.
FCA’s minivans increased their market share in part thanks to their own growth, but also because of a sharp decline in sales of the Toyota Sienna and flat sales from the Honda Odyssey and Kia Sedona.

Year-to-date, total Canadian MPV volume is up 15%, a gain of nearly 5000 units. The year-over-year figure is buoyed by poor performance from FCA’s vans at this time last year – there was a plant shutdown which limited the Grand Caravan and Town & Country.
But there’s also no denying that there are far more minivans leaving Canadian auto dealers in 2016 than there were in 2015.
