Minivan Sales In Canada – May 2015 YTD

Canadian minivan sales continued their downward trend in May 2015, falling 33% as the Kia Sedona and Toyota Sienna stood out as the only vehicles to post year-over-year increases.

The latest Sedona, all-new in the latter part of last year, generated its best sales month so far; 39% better than its previous best in January. The Toyota Sienna, meanwhile, posted a 44% improvement to 1616 units. That was good enough for second spot in the category behind the fast-falling Dodge Grand Caravan; good enough for 24% market share in the “full-size” MPV class.

The Windsor, Ontario-built FCA twins – Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan – are fading fast at the end of their latest iteration, particularly since the plant in Windsor shut down for retooling. Jointly, their May volume was cut in half. They still owned 47% of the overall MPV category and 51% of their specific class.
