The refreshed Camry continues to defy the trend of the segment. Camry volume is up 14% this year and jumped 17% in August 2015.
In August, however, for the second consecutive month, the Camry surrendered its monthly victory to last year’s midsize leader, the Ford Fusion. The Fusion outsold the Camry by 991 units over the course of July and August.
Six different midsize nameplates produced four-digit sales figures in August 2015. The leading trio – Fusion, Camry, Hyundai Sonata – generated 46% of the category’s sales.
The worst declines among midsize contenders in August were reported by the Nissan Altima and Subaru Legacy. On an annual basis, Altima volume has declined in seven consecutive years. The Legacy, after steadily improving over the course of 18 months, came back to Earth with a 15% drop over the last two months.
