In July 2013, Canada’s ten best-selling premium brand utility vehicles were responsible for generating 2.8% of the auto industry’s volume.
Nine of those ten crossovers – RX, MDX, Q5, RDX, GLK, M-Class, SRX, JX35, and X5 – reported year-over-year increases in July. The X3 (as well as BMW’s X1) posted sharp declines in July.

The X1’s 88% drop was the smallest BMW crossover’s 11th decline in the last twelve months. The X3’s 30% drop, equal to 139 lost sales, was just what Audi needed for the Q5 to take over second spot in the luxury SUV/CUV sales race.
The Lexus RX is 219 sales ahead of the Q5 with five months remaining on the calendar.

GCBC isn’t here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better, right? This explains you’ll see the XC70 listed with luxury cars as well as with SUVs and crossovers and the Touareg with luxury SUVs and mainstream SUVs… because readers have wanted it both ways. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.
