July 2013 marked the first properly strong month for car sales in Canada this year, as the best-selling Honda Civic contributed an extra 1595 sales, Hyundai sold 1090 extra Elantras, and Toyota sold 687 more Corollas than they did a year ago.
Collectively, the 144 passenger car nameplates you see here posted 11.5% gains in July. Car sales aren’t all that healthy through the first 58% of 2013, however, basically level in a growing market.
Honda car sales are up 13% this year. Hyundai car sales are up narrowly by a couple hundred units. Sales of cars at Toyota’s own Toyota division have plunged 8%. Sales of cars at FoMoCo have fallen 3%. Chrysler Canada car sales have grown 21% with a big boost from the 21st-ranked Dodge Dart. General Motors car sales are down 1% with no assistance from the Impala, which is down 49%, or 2735 units.
These are year-to-date rankings, but you can sort cars by July volume by clicking the July 2013 column header, or you can rank cars by improvements or declines using the % columns. Or, most importantly, you can list automakers together by selecting the Car column header. Just remember, the list is horizontally flipped from the norm: YTD on the left, monthly data on the right.
As always, you can find historical monthly and yearly sales figures for any of these vehicles by selecting a make and model at GCBC’s Sales Stats page.
