Top 30 Best-Selling Vehicles In Canada – September 2011 – With Market Share Chart

2011 Dodge Grand Caravan Black

The Ford F-Series has been and remains the best-selling vehicle overall. As was the case in the best-selling trucks post from this past weekend, the F-Series’ lead over the second-ranked vehicle is 3872-sales strong. Again, as was the case in the best-selling trucks post, the Dodge Ram pickup is the second-ranked vehicle here, but here the Ram’s closest challenger is the Honda Civic, Canada’s best-selling car, 1440 sales abaft.

Reports surfaced today that Fiat-run Chrysler would be killing off the Dodge Grand Caravan in the near future in an effort to remove duplicates from dealers. Haven’t you noticed the absence of a Chrysler-badged pickup truck in the automaker’s fleet? The Dodge Avenger will also depart. This will seem strange to Americans, who buy the Grand Caravan in fairly large numbers, but even stranger to Canadians who’ve made the Grand Caravan the third-best-selling vehicle in the country through the first three quarters of 2011.

September 2011 sales of the most popular minivan in Canada were down very slightly. Year-to-date sales are up 3%. The automaker’s remaining minivan will be the Chrysler Town & Country, sales of which jumped 42% to 362 in September. If rumours of the Grand Caravan’s demise prove true, one can assume the Town & Country’s base price will drop and Dodge buyers will migrate to the Chrysler twin. The same reports suggested there’ll be a single crossover introduced to replace both the Grand Caravan and Avenger.

Back on topic, more than half of Canada’s 30 best-selling vehicles reported sales declines in September compared with September of last year. That includes 80% of the ten top sellers. At this point in GoodCarBadCar.net’s monthly sales recap we normally see a market share pie chart which describes the domination of Canada’s 20 best-selling vehicles. This post has been improved and added to, however, the chart remains below. From the F-Series to the Toyota Matrix, Canada’s 20 most popular vehicles owned 48% of the new vehicle market in September. That’s down from 50.2% in August.
