Our Take Brand & Corporation Rankings
There was no repeat of GM’s August 2017 dominance in the Canadian auto market last month, as Ford nosed ahead with a 7.1% year-on-year increase in sales.
That boost saw Ford top GM’s total for the same month last year, outdoing its Detroit competitor on a daily-selling rate basis too as both months share the exact same number of days.
Year-on-year 1.9% fewer vehicles were sold in Canada than the same month last year as interest rate rises begin to bite. Year-to-date, sales are now behind by 1.8% overall
GM and FCA saw sales dip by 10.1% and 9.6% respectively as automakers from outside the Americas posted strong gains.
Toyota, Hyundai-Kia, Honda, Mazda and Subaru were among the Asian marques to have a bountiful August in Canada, while Nissan Canada celebrated an August record.
