In March 2016, a trio of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ cars once again played a striking role on Canada’s list of the 20 worst-selling new vehicles.
Canada Vehicle Sales Rankings By Model – March 2016 YTD
While in February the trio included the Fiat 500, Fiat 500L, and Chrysler 300, March’s group included the Fiat 500L, Chrysler 200, and Dodge Dart. The latter pair are victims of FCA’s restructuring – a future Chrysler midsize car and Dodge compact will likely be sourced by FCA, but not developed and built by FCA. More recently came news that the 200’s Sterling Heights, Michigan, factory would suffer more than 1300 layoffs. Partially to blame for the shocking lack of demand for FCA cars – FCA is after all the best-selling manufacturer in Canada – is the plunging resale value of the 200 and Dart.
We weren’t fans of the 200 to begin with. Complaining about its 9-speed automatic, the overall heft of the car, a snug rear seat, interior mish-mash, and a rich price tag, writing in October 2014 that, “Chrysler dealers already know consumers aren’t going to pay top dollar for this car.”

In a group of the 20 most rapidly declining vehicles, three cars does not a complete March 2016 worst sellers list make. Numerous discontinued models – Ridgeline, Crosstour, xB, Orlando, Eos – are joined by a few models set for replacement or refreshing – GL-Class, Q60 – and a number of vehicles which simply didn’t have the demand or ability to meet demand that they possessed one year ago.
