Car sales in Canada for April of 2019 were down around 8,000 units when compared to the same month last year. When you look at the YTD sales numbers, the segment was down almost 16,000 units. Suggesting there are fewer sales overall and buyers are interested in other vehicle types.
Leading the pack was the Honda Civic although it saw a sales decrease of around three percent. It was followed by the Toyota Corolla, which saw a sales decrease of around seven percent. Rounding out the top three was the Hyundai Elantra, which saw a sales increase of over one percent.
Overall, there were a lot more models that saw sales decreases than increases.
With that said, there were still some models that saw notable sales increases, including the VW Jetta, Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Sonata, and Hyundai Ioniq among others.
Important note: Both Ford and GM have switched to quarterly reporting, making it more difficult to accurately gauge crossover sales. We won’t have results to report for Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Ford or Lincoln until the end of each quarter.
