As sales saw an overall decline in April 2018, demand for SUVs and crossovers had another month of growth; total sales for the vehicles in the chart below were up 3.12% for the month.
The SUV market continues to benefit from the Jeep Wrangler’s huge growth; April saw sales up by over 50% for the off roader, far ahead of last year’s figures but less explosive in growth terms than seen in previous months. As a result, the Wrangler sits down in ninth place for the month, after sitting fifth in March.
The Wrangler and the Compass were the only two Jeep models in growth last month, with the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee both seeing sales drop. The Grand Cherokee’s total from last April was cut in half
The Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 continue their hard-fought race for the top, with the Honda edging out the Toyota last month – though just 62 sales separate the pair.
Year-to-date, the CR-V has a comfortable lead on the rest of the market, with over 1100 sales as a buffer to its nearest rival.
