Note: This quarter presents us with a new challenge in calculating monthly sales figures – COVID-19.
Historically, since auto manufacturers have switched the quarterly reporting news outlets are estimating monthly sales figures based on the quarterly figure. Here at GCBC, our approach was to take the quarterly number, divide that number by total selling days for the quarter and multiply that number against the total sales days in that month. This led to an averaged out number across each month.
COVID-19 has presented a pretty unique challenge for us. For this quarter, we anticipated sales to dramatically decrease in March. Fortunately, there are still a couple of brands reporting on a monthly basis. Those companies showed roughly a 17% drop from February to March in overall sales. We decided to use that figure as our benchmark to estimate the monthly sales numbers for those reporting quarterly.
You will notice in the monthly sales tables, the numbers will be reflected to represent a steep dropoff in March sales figures which will likely spill over into the next quarter as well.
For those brands that continue to report on monthly basis (Subaru, Volvo, Mazda, Honda, Acura, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Mitsubishi, etc), we will still update individual model, brand and manufacturer pages on a monthly basis.
