Chevrolet Sales Data, Trends, Analysis & Current Lineup for the U.S Automotive Market

This is your hub for all of the Chevrolet sales data for the U.S market. Chevrolet is the American automobile division of General Motors. It is sometimes called simply as Chevy or Chev by most American people. The company produces and sells a wide range of vehicles, from subcompact automobiles to medium-duty commercial trucks.

Chevrolet is the biggest of General Motors’ four remaining brands and battling with Toyota for second place behind Ford as most popular brand in the United States by volume. It’s products range from the small citycar Spark to the all-electric Bolt and the full-fledged sports car Corvette and from the small crossover Trax to the family-sized SUV Suburban and of course the full-sized pick-up truck Silverado. It is also ranks as one of the largest automobile brand in the world. Their cars are known for their performance, durability, and incredible value for money. The company’s early adoption of the latest technologies in the automotive industry has set it apart against other leading brands and make a huge mark on the market. In fact, there are a number of Chevrolet vehicles that have become icons of American culture.

The company’s popularity across the globe is due to their intensive marketing and advertising programs. If you can recall, Chevrolet was made even more popular by the Transformers movie franchise. Bumblebee, an Autobot who transforms into a yellow Chevrolet Camaro has helped the brand become popular not just in America but in other countries as well. Chevrolet produces most of its cars and SUVs for the US market in North America, with the exception of the Spark minicar, which is produced in GM’s former Daewoo factory in South Korea. The Chevrolet Silverado full-sized pick-up truck has been the best selling model for the brand in the United States for decades, while the Malibu midsized sedan is its most popular sedan and the Equinox compact crossover its best selling crossover.

Please note: General Motors stopped reporting monthly US sales figures in Q3 of 2018 and switched to reporting its US sales quarterly. From Q3 of 2018 onwards you will find Q1 data in the March data field, Q2 data in June, Q3 data in September and Q4 data in December.

Chevrolet U.S Sales Figures & Recent Highlights

Chevrolet sales in US has been very good recently for the company. Today, the company is currently competing against Toyota for the second place behind Ford as the best-selling brand in the US. Based on the data below, Chevrolet has been doing quite well on the crowded US market for the last 15 years. They reached their peak in 2005 selling 2,572,164 and taking 15.4% of the market share in the US.  They also extended their success in the 2010s after selling over 2 million vehicles from 2014 to 2018. Chevrolet took a slight dip in sales in year 2019 as it failed to hit the 2 million mark but we expect them to boost their sales again after they launch their new models for the year 2020.

Chevrolet sales in the U.S. decreased by 11.9% in 2020, to 1,740,882 vehicles. This was due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused a decline in demand for new cars. Chevrolet sales in the U.S. decreased by 17.74% in 2021, to 1,435,205 vehicles. This was due to the chip shortage, which limited the production of new cars. Chevrolet sales in the U.S. increased by 3.4% in 2022, to 1,482,836 vehicles. This was due to the easing of the chip shortage and the launch of new models, such as the Chevrolet Bolt EV and the Chevrolet Bolt EUV. Chevrolet sales in the U.S. decreased by 0.3% in the first quarter of 2023, to 381,380 vehicles. This was due to the ongoing chip shortage and rising inflation.

In some great news, Chevrolet announced that reservations for the Silverado EV electric pickup truck have topped 140,000. The Silverado EV is scheduled to go on sale in the United States in 2023. Overall, Chevrolet is facing some challenges in the United States. The brand is seeing declining sales due to the chip shortage and rising inflation. However, Chevrolet is investing heavily in new products, such as the Silverado EV, and it is hoping that these products will help the brand to regain market share.
