US – Small Car Sales Figures

The GCBC Analysis

The small car segment didn’t fare so well in the month of June. It’s also not doing very well so far this year. The segment saw about 21,000 fewer sales in the month of June then it did this time last year.

When you look YTD, the segment has been down by about 133,000 sales. June actually saw more models with sales increases than when you look YTD. Many of the models both for the month and YTD have seen percentage drops well into the double digits.

The segment leader was the Honda Civic. However, it was down by about five percent for the month and about four so far this year. It was followed by the Toyota Corolla. The Corolla managed to see a sales increase of about two percent for the month of June, but it’s down about five percent for the year so far. Rounding out the top three is the Nissan Sentra with a three percent sales increase for the month and a drop in sales YTD of about five percent.

It’s really no surprise that small car sales in Canada are down. The segment has been trending down for quite some time. It’s expected to continue to do so as more people turn to SUVs and away from sedans.

Below you will find sales figures for all small cars sold in the United States broken down by month and by quarter.
