Best-Selling Pickup Trucks In Canada – May 2019

The GCBC Analysis

Pickup truck sales in Canada didn’t look too great in May of 2019. The segment was down as a whole by about 3,900 units. So far this year, the segment was down roughly 5,700 units. That doesn’t bode well for the rest of the year.

Leading the segment in terms of volume was the Ford F-150. It was down roughly a single percent for the month of May. It has seen about a percent growth YTD. Behind that truck was the Ram Pickup, which saw a decline in sales of about 22 percent. The Chevy Silverado was in third and saw a drop in sales of about eight percent.

Most models saw a drop in sales. for the month of May. However, a few models saw gains, including the Toyota Tundra, GMC Canyon, and the Nissan Frontier. The Frontier saw a significant surge in sales of about 36 percent.

When you look at the segment in terms of fullsize and midsize, it’s clear that midsize is doing much better. It saw a rise of about 26 percent while fullsize saw a drop of about 11 percent. Still, the overall volume of midsize trucks if far lower than fullsize, so the entire segment was down roughly 9 percent.

With this drop in pickup truck sales, it will be interesting to see how automakers will react, especially if it continues as the year moves forward.
