Our Take On The Passenger Car Numbers

Before we get into the analysis of the passenger car sales numbers, it’s important to note that Ford and GM brands are not represented in the table below due to the fact that both companies report sales quarterly.

With that said, The Toyota Corolla led the way in terms of overall sales with a significant nearly 16 percent increase for the month of February over this time last year. The Toyota Camry came in second place. It’s surprising that the Corolla sold just about as many models this month as Camry did this month last year.

Moving further down the list are the Honda Civic, Honda Accord, Nissan Sentra, and Nissan Altima. Of the models mentioned, only the Accord saw a sales increase for the month of February.

Other notable sales increases for cars from mainstream brands include the Volkswagen Jetta, Kia Optima, Kia Rio, Mitsubishi Mirage, and Hyundai Veloster. Also, several luxury cars saw significant sales increases well into the double digits.

Notable sales decreases for high selling cars include the Toyota Camry, Honda Civic, Nissan Altima, and Hyundai Elantra, though there were several more models that saw large sales decreases.

Overall, more models saw decreases in sales than saw increases. That reality echoed in the YTD sales numbers.
