Our Take On The Large Cars Sales Numbers

Large car sales in American were down roughly 67,000 units in 2018. For the month of December, Large car sales were down about 6,400 units when compared to last year. More and more buyers are turning to SUVs and crossovers for their vehicle needs.

The only model that saw sales increases for both the month of December and 2018 as a whole was the Toyota Avalon. It saw increases of 4.6 percent for December and 3.1 percent for the year. It ranks sixth in terms of overall sales volume for the segment in terms of annual sales.

The segment leader, the Dodge Charger, saw an increase of 6.8 percent for the month of December but a drop of 9.2 percent for the year.

Chevrolet’s well-respected Impala is definitely showing its age, and its sales reflect that. Although it places second in terms of volume for the year, it saw percentage declines for both the month and for the year.

The Nissan Maxima had a decent December with a rise in sales of 11.6 percent, but on the year, its sales were down 37.4 percent.

Most other models fared similarly with rises for the month of December but large drops for the year.
