Our Take On The Small SUVs Sales Numbers
The Subaru XV CrossTrek continues to storm the subcompact and crossover SUV category, hitting its best July ever last month with a 58.9% year-on-year increase.
In July, CrossTrek didn’t just outsell everything in its own category; of all the vehicles below it ranks fourth for the month, close behind the Nissan Rogue after its sales took a dive, hitting mid-20k for the month for the second time this year.
Back at the end of May, Nissan announced it would begin to cut back US production of its vehicles at its two locally-based plants and three Mexican sites.
With the Rogue having been one of two small SUVs to smash through 400,000 sales in 2017 (the Toyota RAV4 being the other one), just past the half way point it is not unfeasible looking at its year-to-date performance that it may be one of at least two to manage the same feat this year – but that will depend on more stability in its sales month-to-month.
In the first six months of the year, Rogue suffered just one blip akin to July’s sales total – that was back in May, when sales bottomed out at 23,331. Starting out the second half of the year with a difficult month puts it on the back foot if it is to reach that 400k barrier by the end of December.
