Our Take On The Small And Midsize Luxury SUVs Sales Numbers

The BMW X1 topped the subccompact luxury SUV chart once again in May, though its sales dipped 0.6% year-on-year.

A possible explanation for this is the arrival of the X2, a more dynamic, sporty luxury SUV, sales of which increased significantly. The X2 rounds off its first quarter on sale with almost 4,000 units sold.

The X2’s sales last month came within 25 units of its more established rival from Audi, the Q3, while the Infiniti QX30’s sales took another tumble; it sold just over a third of what the X2 or the Audi managed last month.

BMW’s X-badged luxury SUVs fared well in the compact luxury SUV segment, with BMW citing increased availability as a reason for the growth. X3 sales have more than doubled for May this year, and year-to-date the X3 has sold almost 10,000 more units than it had by the end of May 2017.

Porsche’s best-seller also nests in the compact luxury SUV sales chart; the Macan’s 2304 sales account for almost half of Porsche’s total sales for the month, with the German marque having topped 5000 vehicles sold in the USA for a second month in a row.

Overall, luxury SUVs continue to draw in US buyers, with all three segments below posting significant year-on-year gains.
