Our Take On The Passenger Car Numbers

May saw the Honda Civic overtake the Toyota Camry to be best-selling passenger car in America in the fifth month of 2018.

7.4% year-on-year growth for the Civic carries it to the top of the table and puts it 43 units ahead of last year’s performance for the calendar year to date.

The Camry meanwhile sits in second after its sales fell by almost 8% year-on-year. The Honda Accord also continued to struggle compared with a year ago, despite heaps of critical acclaim for its recent update.

Unlike last month there was significant growth for some nameplates in the top half of the table; the Hyundai Elantra saw sales shoot up 27% year-on-year.

*GM has now switched to quarterly reporting so figures for Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC are not up to date. We have opted against using estimated sales figures for these brands as the estimates across publications have been inconsistent.

Going forward, GoodCarBadCar will be releasing quarterly sales reports that include all figures on a quarterly basis.
