Our Take On The Large SUVs Sales Numbers

Yet again in June, only three models in the large SUV segment have reported sales figures for the USA, with GM’s figures for the quarter due at the end of this month.

Out of those three, none managed year-on-year growth compared with May 2017, and only one – the Nissan Armada is ahead year-to-date.

Ford noted in its month-end release that retail sales of the Expedition are up 41.8% year-on-year, though lack of inventory has been holding back the fast-selling SUV. Typically, Ford reports, Expeditions last just 19 days on dealer lots, while average transaction prices are up by over $12,000.

The Toyota Sequoia’s mild facelift at the beginning of the year has done little to mask its ageing underpinnings. As the rest of the field has moved on, it has remained resolutely old-school, and a more comprehensive update for Toyota’s full-size SUV feels long overdue.
