Our Take On The Pickup Sales Numbers

With GM now reporting quarterly, at the time of writing we have seven of the pickup truck nameplates having reported their sales for April 2018, with estimates on the way for the two Chevrolet and two GMC nameplates in the pickup truck category.

For F-Series sales reached their highest levels for April in 18 years, despite April 2018 having two less selling days than April 2017. April marks 12 months in a row of year-on-year sales increases for the F-Series, and Ford reported its average transaction pricing also increased by $900 last month.

RAM Pickup sales fell by 9.4% year-on-year, though the RAM brand celebrated its best April of retail sales ever – topping the previous record for the fourth month of the year by 1002 units.

There were dips in sales year-on-year for almost every other vehicle that has reported so far, meaning even with the addition of GM’s pickup sales the market as a whole would likely be behind last year’s total for the month.

The Toyota Tacoma kept its chin up though, with a 10.6% increase in its sales helping drag Toyota’s pickup division total sales to a 5% increase despite a drop in sales for the Tundra.
