Our Take On The Commercial Van Sales Numbers

After a slight dip in February, the US commercial van market held steady in March 2018, with Q1 results near enough equaling those from 2017.

The top three sellers last month, the Ford Transit, Chevrolet Express and Ford E-Series, accounted for over 60% of all commercial vans sold, with many of the nameplates below that posting considerable losses.

The Ram ProMaster posted the steepest decline in the commercial vans market in March, bringing its year-to-date total for the first quarter over 3500 sales below its performance in Q1 2017.

The Ford Transit Connect, top of the small / midsize van segment is also behind its performance to date for the year, though Ford recently revealed an ace up its sleeve as part of a raft of updates for 2019 model year: a 1.5-litre turbodiesel engine, the only van in its class to offer diesel power as an option.
