Our Take On The SUV Sales Numbers

SUV and crossover sales in Canada for 2018 so far are up 13.37% on the first two months of 2017, after February’s sales built on success from January.

Another strong month of sales for the Jeep Wrangler in February puts it in second place year-to-date, pushing the Toyota RAV4 to third in terms of sales volume to the end of February.

Sharp growth was experienced by a few upper-mid-range volume selling SUVs and crossovers. As well as the addition of the Qashqai’s 2142 sales t the mix, the Volkswagen Tiguan’s uptick continued in February with sales up over 75%.

The Subaru Crosstrek experienced sharp growth too, with its sales more than doubling for the second month this year. Consumers appear to have really taken to the second-generation Crosstrek, with its strong figures a key factor in last month being Subaru Canada’s best-ever February.

At the premium end of things, Mercedes-Benz’s SUV offering overall had a strong February, with the GLA-, GLC- and GLE-Class nameplates all posting sharp increases over last Feb.

BMW’s X1 and X3 offerings grew their volume as well compared with a year ago, as the marque builds towards the launch of the X2 between the pair. Its larger offering (X4, X5 & X6) had less success in February.
