Our Take On The Small SUVs Sales Numbers

Small SUVs start 2018 on a high with 11.8% growth across the market when compared to last January’s figures.

A huge chunk of that growth is thanks to the Nissan Rogue, which goes 10,000 units clear of the rest of the field. Even 2017’s best-seller the Toyota RAV4 left in its dust despite posting a 20.3% year-on-year increase in sales for January.

Last year’s January leader, Honda’s CR-V, drops to fourth in the standings for last month as the Chevrolet Equinox posts 50% year-on-year growth to go third.

The Subaru Crosstrek takes the top spot in the subcompact SUV and crossover chart, posting 45% year-on-year growth that helps to lift the sub-segment as a whole.

Demand for subcompact SUV and crossover vehicles soared, up 16% on last January, though totaling around a fifth the volume of the compact SUV segment.
